I was trying to break into a huge school, it was a special school for really talented and gifted people. I could see a map, the place was huge. There was a way in on the side of the building, through a decorative waterfall. I climbed through, and suddenly I'm in a house I've never seen full of people. I'm getting married to someone I know in real life, but they're really over weight in the dream and look different. I don't know him very well, hardly at all. I have long black hair and a beautiful dress on. My husband in real life is there as a friend. My mom is trying to help me with my hair and I keep yanking it away from her. I don't know anyone at the gathering, they're all family of the groom. I'm walking around trying to decide, is this right? Is this wrong? I decide to tell him we shouldn't get married. I ask him to walk outside with me. He's so excited, entertaining family and laughing. Everyone there is smiling at me. In my heart I know this will be awkward, how do we send all these people home, how will he react? We walk outside and I say "I really feel like we don't know eachother well enough to do this. I care for you, but not in a romantic way," he agrees with enthusiasm. I'm surprised and relieved. We contemplate how to tell his family that the wedding is off.
Dreams often reflect our unconscious thoughts, feelings, and life situations. In your dream, several key themes can be explored to interpret its meaning:
Breaking In and Special School: The act of trying to break into a special school for talented people might suggest a desire for personal growth, achievement, or recognition. It could indicate feelings of inadequacy or a need to prove your worth in an area of life where you feel less confident.
Decorative Waterfall: Waterfalls often symbolize change and a flow of emotions. Climbing through a waterfall to enter signifies overcoming obstacles to achieve something beautiful or extraordinary. It may also suggest transitions in your life that are both challenging and rewarding.
Marriage and Unknown People: The wedding scenario represents commitment and the merging of lives. However, the fact that you're marrying someone you don't know well raises questions about impulsive decisions and pressures to conform to societal norms. It might reflect concerns about relationships in your life—perhaps you are evaluating your current relationship or considering what you truly want out of partnerships.
Appearance of the Groom: The groom appearing different or overweight could symbolize that your perception of relationships or expectations may not align with reality. It may represent an aspect of this man or relationships in general that you are wrestling with—possibly your fear of being trapped in a commitment or realizing that not everyone fits the ideal.
Mom and Hair: Your mother helping with your hair may suggest the influence of family or societal expectations regarding your appearance or life choices. The act of yanking your hair away signifies your resistance against these expectations and your desire for independence in making personal decisions.
Doubt and Decision: Your internal dialogue about whether the marriage is right or wrong emphasizes your desire for clarity in relationships and your feelings of uncertainty. Choosing to express your doubts and ultimately deciding not to go through with the wedding indicates a strong sense of self-awareness and the confidence to stand by your true feelings, prioritizing authenticity over obligation.
Awkwardness of Cancelling: Contemplating how to inform the groom’s family about the decision to cancel illustrates the fear of disappointing others or facing social repercussions. This may also reflect a broader anxiety about how your decisions might affect those around you.
Overall, this dream seems to encapsulate themes of self-discovery, the complexity of relationships, the influence of societal expectations, and the importance of honesty in personal decision-making. It may encourage you to reflect on your own relationships, how well you feel you know those you are close to, and what you want for your future. It invites you to trust your instincts, even if it leads to difficult conversations or situations.
